Groundbreaking ceremony for establishing Science and Botany Park, is the fruitful collaboration between Ministry of Science and Technology and Atlantic International Group Sole Co., LTD at Huaykhong Village, KeoOudom District, Vientiane Province on October 9th, 2020. With our most honorary guests Prof. Dr. Boviengkham Vongdara, Minister of Science and Technology; Mr. Khamphan Sitthidampha, Vientiane Province Governor; Mr. Phouvong Souyavong, President of Atlantic International Group Sole Co., LTD; and others honored guests.
Mrs. Keophaivanh Douangsavanh, President of the Council under the Ministry of Science and Technology, used this chance to inform the people about the main goals and purposes for establishing the Park as she said after this place is finished, it’ll become another big step and beneficial for basic infrastructure, it will be a hub to train people especially to promote the understanding and spreading the knowledge about technology and inventions to society, student, entrepreneur. It is also a development to the policy in developing the national economy and society based on sustainable development goals by taking science, technology, and innovation as a tool to inspire the community to move forward with a strong, firm, fast, deep, and wide stance. In the past, the Ministry of Science and Technology cooperated with Atlantic International Group Sole Co., LTD to sign a contract for the construction of the said park in October, 2019, and then on August 7th, 2020 signed another contract with extended details and started implementing them according to the contract.
Science and Botany Park has the total area of 30 hectares. A 3 years development period includes a large-scale in astronomy (Observatory, planetarium), botanical garden and botanical learning center (trees, plant varieties, medical plants that come from local and international regions), center for education and learning in science, technology and innovation, natural tourist attractions which relate to our culture and other activities which will be useful for education and learning in science and contribution to economic-social development.
Mr. Phouvong Souyavong further reported that: Currently, the Science and Botany Park has been constructed for 6 months by building roads and building facilities, which is about 30% complete. In addition, the first stage of construction is to build observatory and planetarium, which is related to the groundbreaking ceremony today, is expected to be completed and ready for trail use in April, 2021; the 2nd phase is to build auditorium, accommodation for seminarians who come to the meeting; the 3rd phase will plant decorative trees alongside developing the park.
After that, Prof. Dr. Boviengkham Vongdara and Mr. Khamphan Sitthidampha with the president of the company and other guests participated together to plant a number of trees in the garden to create a green forest and toured the exhibition of research works of offices, departments, institutions, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the products of Vientiane province as well as watching the activities of the project “I want to be a scientist”.
